About Sarah

My name is Sarah Edelmaier. Looking back on my life up to this point, I can see how windy the road was that led me here. Despite always being interested by hypnosis, I never expected it to be my career. I have learned, reluctantly at first, to stop trying to force the universe to fit into my plans, and instead to accept that the universe has its own plans for me.

Initially, I had planned on being a high school English teacher. I got my BA from the University of La Verne in 2003. The day I was set to start the credential program was the same day I found out I was pregnant with my daughter! I knew I wouldn’t be able to complete the program at that time, but planned on going back to school in the future. I did substitute teach for a while when my daughter was little, but with the onset of some chronic autoimmune conditions, I was forced to accept that my path in life had been altered. Like many people with autoimmune disorders, I learned how deeply stress affects the body. And teaching high school is most definitely stressful!

For many years, I explored various forms of art. I taught myself to knit and crochet, worked on sewing, tried my hand at fluid art, and more recently got into embroidery. I seem to be drawn to crafts that require patience and intention, as much as creativity. I almost always have more than one project in the works at any given time. I enjoy making things that are beautiful, but also whimsical. I want people to see things I make, and smile.

In 2020, my husband and I bought a house in a new town. We got our first Irish wolfhound, Meabh. When she was a few years old, I had her registered as a therapy dog, and took her to nursing homes. I loved hearing people exclaim, “I’ve never seen a dog so big!” There were a few times when she sat on someone’s lap, and they would just laugh! Other times, when a patient with dementia was distressed, Meabh would just go to them, and look them in the eyes. As soon as they would reach out their hand to pet her, you could visibly see their body relax. I could get into the science, discuss how cortisol levels drop, and serotonin increases, and so on. But to actually witness it was pure magic! Unfortunately, we lost Meabh to cancer way too soon. I’m hoping to do therapy work again with our new dog, Áine, when she gets a little older. My understand of the healing power of connections was deepened through my work with pet therapy. I realized that my calling, my purpose, must lie somewhere in the realm of connection.

I have always been fascinated by hypnosis. Just like with pet therapy, the combination of science and “magic” intrigues me! There have been many studies over the years that prove the benefits of hypnosis for a variety of conditions. Now, in my late 40s, the universe finally lined things up in a way that brought me to it as a career. I have been studying for a couple years now, and was recently certified by the Palo Alto School of Hypnotherapy and the UCSD Center for Integrative Health, and I continue to deepen my knowledge through ongoing study. I believe strongly that there is no one-size-fits-all approach; each person’s mind and experience are unique.

Hypnotherapy is not about “doing something” to someone—it’s about guiding people to access their own inner resources. Hypnotherapy, to me, is a way to not only help people, but to teach them. I am still a teacher at heart, after all! As Dorthy Tyo, one of my instructors, always says, “all hypnosis is self-hypnosis.” The answers you’re looking for are already within you. My role is to help you quiet the noise, relax the mind, and learn how to access them.

Hypnosis can be used to change habits, increase motivation, work through fears, and so much more. My passion lies especially in supporting people on their personal and spiritual journeys—helping them feel more connected, grounded, and aligned in their lives, and increasing their sense of self-awareness. I want to lead people to a life of connections- with other people, with themselves, with the world as a whole. As John Donne said, “No man is an island.” We are all a part of the whole. And through hypnosis, I hope to help people glimpse that entirety, so that together, we can make the world a better place. By helping one individual, that person can go out and help others, and on and on. Healing ripples outward. When we become more whole within ourselves, we show up differently for others. We can fill the world with kindness, and empathy, and wholeness.

We are not meant to do this alone.

And I would be honored to support you on your journey.
